Head coach Deion Sanders promised his son Shilo Sanders a new car if he ran a 4.4-second 40-yard dash at the Colorado Buffaloes Pro Day. Sanders gave it his all but crossed the line at 4.52 seconds—shy of the mark. However, his mom, Pilar Sanders, argues that the scouts in Colorado had 4.45 for Sanders and that he deserves that car.

Sanders narrowly missed out on the new car from Coach Prime after a solid performance at the Buffaloes Pro Day, but not quite enough to impress the stopwatch. His official times of 4.52 and 4.59 seconds were just a tick off the 4.4 mark, with the faster clocking at 4.52—one-tenth of a second too slow.
However, not everyone agreed with the results, including Sander’s most prominent supporter: his mom, Pilar. She took to Instagram to challenge the official times. She posted a video repurposed from Deion Sanders Jr., which featured the CU staff in the crowd clocking Sanders at 4.45 seconds.
The caption read, “New Car,” with the bold claim, “Many people got Shilo at 4.45!!”
This seemed like the perfect moment for safety in getting a new car, especially since he’s struggling to keep up with payments on his 2023 Mercedes-Benz.
The car company’s financial services took the matter to court, where Sanders filed for bankruptcy in 2023 with more than $11 million in debt.
According to the company, Sanders missed $6,877 in payments from December through February and still had an outstanding balance of $97,239. However, his car’s trade-in value was only $97,000—barely enough to cover the debt.
Despite the headlines, Coach Prime refuted the news and assured reporters at the Buffaloes Pro Day that Sanders would still be driving the car.

For Sanders, though, the Pro Day was his one shot to prove himself to NFL scouts, as he wasn’t invited to the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. His younger brother Shedeur is projected to be a top draft pick, but Sanders faces a stricter road where going undrafted is a real possibility.
