‘We’ve Got 3 Guys That Are in the Thick of the Battle’ — Sherrone Moore Details Michigan’s QB Depth Chart

Michigan's QB battle heats up with three players competing for the lead role. HC Sherrone Moore explains how the decision will unfold and why it may take time.

Michigan’s quarterback competition is a big topic this offseason. Who Will Lead the Wolverines at QB This Fall?

Despite Underwood being considered a generational talent, his chances of starting right away for Michigan are uncertain, given the importance of the quarterback position.

To add depth and competition, the Wolverines brought in Keene while also retaining Davis and Davis Warren on the roster.

Transitioning from high school to college is a big challenge for any player, especially at a position like quarterback. The speed of the game is much faster, and the level of competition is higher than anything Underwood has faced before.

Handing him the starting job right away could be tough, especially when he’s competing against experienced players like Keene and Davis, who already have college experience.

They understand what it takes to succeed at this level and have been through the ups and downs of college football. For Underwood, jumping straight into a starting role could be overwhelming.

During an appearance on The Daily Wire’s Crain & Co., Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore discussed the ongoing quarterback competition and how he plans to choose a starter.

Moore first highlighted the three players currently competing for the role: Keene, Underwood, and Davis. He emphasized that Davis, a highly rated recruit, is a strong competitor in the battle.

“Right now, we’ve got those three guys really in the thick of the battle,” Moore said. He also mentioned that the competition will expand once true freshman Chase Herbstreit joins the team in the summer. Additionally, Warren, who is still recovering from an injury sustained in the ReliaQuest Bowl, will be part of the mix once healthy.

Keene, Underwood, and Davis are all available for practice this spring, but Warren and Herbstreit are not. Herbstreit, a freshman, will arrive in the summer, while Warren is working his way back from injury.

With several quarterbacks in the competition, Moore made it clear that he isn’t rushing the decision. He plans to evaluate each player over the spring and summer, taking time to make the right choice for the team. The final decision may not come until fall camp.

“It’s unbelievable to have the talent we have at this position. We want to build it for years to come,” Moore said. “The process is simple: Who completes the most passes? Who’s the best leader? Who can help us win?

“These answers may come in the spring, through summer workouts, or during fall camp. We’ll take our time and make the right decision for the team.”

Michigan’s quarterback competition is still open. Keene and Davis, who have college experience, are competing with Underwood, the talented freshman. Underwood has a lot of potential, but jumping straight to college football isn’t easy.

Michigan isn’t rushing the decision, and more players will join the competition this summer. The starting quarterback might not be chosen until fall camp. For now, the team is looking for the best player to lead them to wins.
