‘He’s My Best Friend’ – When Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter’s Bond Stood Out at Their First Media Day Together at Jackson State

Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter were one of the most dynamic duos in college football this past season. Part of the reason they were able to succeed was because they both emerged as stars in recent years. However, another reason was that their chemistry grew after playing together for three seasons.

Their journey as teammates began in 2022 when Travis Hunter joined Jackson State. Sanders had already been on the team for a season, but Hunter joined the team a year later. In a throwback video posted by “Thee Pregame Network” of their first media day together at Jackson State, they showed their early bond as friends. When asked about what it is like when Hunter plays on offense, Sanders had this to say:

“He’s my best friend,” Sanders said (Timestamp 5:05). “Whenever he’s on the field, I make sure I look. If he’s on defense, offense, I know, ok, oh Trav on that corner, let me be early with this throw. I know if I’m late, it’s over with.”

After their first season together at Jackson State, Deion Sanders, also known as Coach Prime, took the head coaching job at Colorado. Both players entered the portal and transferred to the Buffaloes, where they played together for two seasons.

Travis Hunter Showcased His Friendship with Shedeur Sanders During the Latter’s Draft Slide

The 2025 NFL draft took place in late April and was expected to be a coronation for the two Colorado stars. Both Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders were viewed as first-round talents and were expected to find out their NFL teams on Day One. That was true for Hunter as he was selected second by the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, Sanders had one of the biggest draft slides in recent memory as he fell to the fifth round before the Cleveland Browns selected him.

While it was likely difficult for Sanders to handle such a huge draft fall, he did not go through it alone. His family was with him at their draft party in Colorado. Additionally,  Hunter took the time to FaceTime Sanders to show his support for his close friend.

“Travis Hunter was on FaceTime supporting Shedeur Sanders during the NFL Draft.”

While it was likely a challenging three days for Sanders, he is now focused on earning his spot in Cleveland, while Hunter does the same thing in Jacksonville.
