Shedeur Sanders’ final preseason game with the Cleveland Browns ended in disappointment from national commentator Skip Bayless, who accused the team and the NFL of mishandling the rookie quarterback.
Sanders, one of four quarterbacks to see action in Cleveland’s 19-17 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, completed three of six passes for 14 yards and was sacked five times. In contrast, veterans Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel combined for 200 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Tyler Huntley added one completion in relief.
Bayless unleashed a just-under-17-minute rant on X following the game, focusing on Sanders’ fourth-quarter 24-yard sack.
“I am outraged, I’m sickened and I’m saddened by the way Shedeur continues to be treated in the National Football League and by those sorry a** Browns and that sorry a** Kevin Stefanski.”
Bayless hyped the ex-Colorado star, claiming that he had a ‘natural thing’ and he had been raised by stars like his father, Deion Sanders. He argued Sanders was being placed in unfair circumstances.
“Shedeur obviously held the ball too long, but he’s trying to make a play because he’s trying to make a splash,” Bayless said.

Sanders was impressive in his preseason debut before sitting out in Week 2 with an oblique injury, making Saturday’s outing his only misstep before roster cuts.

Skip Bayless Delivers Fiery Verdict To End Shedeur Sanders’ Ordeal at Cleveland
Sports commentator Skip Bayless called for Shedeur Sanders’ exit from the Cleveland Browns, arguing that it’s “the only way out” for the rookie quarterback, who was mishandled by the team and the NFL.
Posting a lengthy rant on X after Sanders’ uneven preseason finale, Bayless urged Cleveland’s practice squad to release him so another team could claim him.
“If somebody jumps on Shedeur off Cleveland’s practice squad, that would be the saving grace,” Bayless wrote.
“That would be where somebody actually wanted him. This was just a publicity stunt by Jimmy Haslam, who forced a coaching staff that did not want Shedeur Sanders to try to do something with him.”
Bayless also blamed the Browns’ structure for putting Sanders in difficult situations, including limited snaps behind backup linemen.
“He’s not being set up to succeed. He’s being buried,” Bayless said.
Sanders’ arrival in Cleveland was controversial in itself. Once projected as a top-10 pick, the former Colorado standout slid to No. 144 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, landing in a crowded quarterback room with Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Kenny Pickett already in place. The slide drew chatter across the NFL and college football landscapes.
Meanwhile, Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson recently claimed the NFL discouraged teams from drafting Sanders to “make an example of him.” Whether Sanders remains in Cleveland past roster cutdowns or lands elsewhere, his situation has already sparked one of the loudest preseason conversations, just as his draft slide did back in April.
