‘It Was a Bad, Losing Mindset 2 Years Ago’ — Shedeur Sanders Reveals Biggest Thing He Will Miss Leaving Colorado

Shedeur Sanders reflected on his time with the Colorado Buffaloes, highlighting how the team changed its culture in his two seasons in Boulder.

The Colorado Buffaloes were on a downward spiral before Deion Sanders took over ahead of the 2023 season and his son, Shedeur Sanders, joined as the team’s starting quarterback. Fast forward to 2024, and the Buffaloes boast an impressive 9-3 record.

Shedeur has since cemented himself as one of the best quarterbacks in college football, shining in numerous categories including completion percentage, passing touchdowns, and passing yards.

However, the Buffs QB highlighted how the team was on a bad trajectory in Year 1 with the Sanders family before ultimately turning things around in 2024.

Shedeur Sanders Reflects on Rough First Season in Colorado

On Wednesday’s episode of “2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders,” the Colorado QB and his brother Deion Sanders Jr. reflected on his time in Boulder, Colo. He highlighted the things he would miss the most about Colorado, touching on the tough transition he and the Buffs team experienced, following Coach Prime’s takeover.

“Having the mountains in the background and having the fans be there,” Sanders said on what he would miss most about his time in Boulder. “Knowing that we changed the culture, knowing it was a bad mindset, losing mindset two years ago, and shortly we was able to come in and change everything.”

Sanders laid emphasis on his legacy as a Colorado Buffalo and his pleasure with their success in proving the haters wrong.

“That’s really tough, you know, on coaches and tough on players, and it’s tough, you know, on an environment, because that type of stuff, don’t really happen that often,” Sanders said. “Especially the way we did it against all the odds, all the naysayers, people talking reckless about us, and we’re still able to go out there, put on a performance, and change the narrative and change the culture.”

Sanders’ time as a football player is likely not over as he is considered to be among the top quarterback picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. Needless to say, he has left a lasting legacy as a key figure in the transformation of the Colorado Buffaloes from a struggling team to one of the best teams in college football.

Sanders Confirmed To Play in Colorado’s Bowl Game

Sanders is expected to be among the top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, and this has triggered rumors that the quarterback will be absent during Colorado’s bowl game. Coach Prime, however, was quick to dismiss this and insist that none of his players would miss the bowl game.

“It’s a team thing,” the QB Sanders said to reporters. “If me and [Travis Hunter] and a couple of other players aren’t out there, the Buffs aren’t going to look the same. We understand the pieces we are to the team, the leaders we are overall, and the amount of players that would sit out if we weren’t out there doing it.”
