Shedeur Sanders has already justified himself as one of the premier prospects heading into the 2025 NFL Draft. Once upon a time, college players simply dreamed of making a roster—now, the CFB pipeline is churning out elite talent, and Sanders is leading the pack. Projected as at least a top-five pick, the Colorado quarterback carries sky-high expectations. Still, Sanders doesn’t seem to feel any pressure.
Before he was the renowned Colorado quarterback, he was the son of the NFL legend and Colorado’s coach, Deion Sanders. So, Shedeur was always used to the limelight and pressure, now he knows how to handle himself once he takes on the pressure of being an NFL quarterback.
Shedeur Sanders Is Proud of His Father’s Involvement in His Career
Sanders recently attended the Shrine Bowl, where he received a lot of media attention. He has always received direct guidance from his father. However, this is likely to change now that he’ll move to the NFL. Moreover, with Brian Schottenheimer getting picked as the Dallas Cowboys head coach, it’s more apparent than ever that his father will be staying at Colorado, for now.
This did not faze the Colorado quarterback when he was asked about his father’s absence. He also talked about how he was never bothered by Coach Prime’s involvement in his life since it only made him a better football player.
“I didn’t know that your parents being involved and wanting the best for you was a problem,” Sanders said to reporters at the Shrine Bowl. “The fact he was able to help me become the best quarterback in the country — he’s supposed to do that.”
After this, he also shared with the media that he was his father before Coach Prime was his coach. So, the Sanders family always prioritizes their bond and friendship over their profession.
“We’re friends, we’re friends,” Sanders said with a smile. “A lot of people in the media try to pit us against each other, but we’re family and friends first and foremost.”
Moreover, his thought process was made independent of his father, as he always realized that everything he had belonged to his father’s blood, sweat, and tears. He even shed some light on his father’s philosophy instilled in him:
“He made sure we understand, ‘We have a nice house, but this is all my stuff. This isn’t your stuff,” he added.
Shedeur Sanders Brands Himself As the “Most Guaranteed Risk”
Sanders has had a meeting with the teams holding the top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, i.e., Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Guardians, and New York Giants. So, the former Buffaloes quarterback has showcased his skills in the previous college football season, now he is putting himself forward with his words instead.
“I like that I’m able to get in the forefront of everything and they’re able to understand me and ask me whatever questions they want,” Sanders said, per Oyefusi. “I’m not ducking. I ain’t hiding. I’m right here, live in the flesh and able to answer whatever questions are out there.”
The 6’2 quarterback didn’t choose to participate in the East-West Shrine Bowl, and decided to witness it from the sideline. As of now, Sanders remains confident of being the potential first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, when he trained with Miami’s Cam Ward in Dallas.
“We changed the program at Jackson (State University),” Shedeur said, per Oyefusi. “We went to Colorado, changed the program. And we did everything people didn’t think we were able to do. So, that’s why I know I’m the most guaranteed risk you can take.”
