What Does Drafting a Quarterback Mean for the Saints?

New Orleans sports reporter Garland Gillen recently gave his take on what drafting a quarterback, such as Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart, with the No. 9 overall pick would mean for the Saints.

    He might have a point.

If the team’s focus is on drafting a developmental player who will play behind veteran Derek Carr and who won’t even start, it means first-year head coach Kellen Moore and Co. are looking toward the future.

This would be nothing new, seeing as the team has struggled to win games ever since legend Drew Brees hung up his cleats.

What if the Saints Draft Tyler Warren?

On the other hand, this is what Gillen had to say about the team drafting a player like Penn State tight end Tyler Warren:

“If you want to win this year and you think Derek Carr’s the guy, then I think you need to give him a weapon, and I think that weapon is Tyler Warren.”

The John Mackey Award winner was the best tight end in the country this past season for the Nittany Lions and head coach James Franklin. Also an All-American, Warren caught 104 passes for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns. He also ran the ball 26 times for 218 yards and four touchdowns.

As Gillen noted in his social media video, Warren could very well be the best Swiss army knife in this entire draft. His versatility and elite ability to flourish in both the passing game and the ground game is what separates him from perhaps every other prospect in this draft.

If the Saints were to add Warren to an offense with Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, and Rashid Shaheed, they could be tough to stop if Carr can remain healthy under center.
