It’s no secret that adapting to the NFL is a hard transition for former college football players. Even those coming from a program run by an NFL legend like Coach Prime. Jimmy Horn Jr. is currently going through that difficult period, having been drafted this last NFL Draft by the Carolin Panthers in the sixth round.
Speaking on Sunday’s episode of “Nightcap”, Horn spoke with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco about the differences of training at a program like Colorado, when compared to an NFL franchise.
“The way Coach Prime ran the program, it was already kind of similar to like how they run it in the NFL. So, it’s similar in that way. As the schemes and stuff like being ran. But the plays, the terminology, is like learning a whole other language… Too much” Said Horn Jr.
To this, Sharpe and Ochocinco, two NFL veterans, laughed, understanding what Horn meant, probably having gone through a similar adaptation themselves.
Jimmy Horn Jr. spent two seasons at Colorado under Coach Prime, having transferred in from South Florida, where he was a First-team All-AAC selection in 2022. In 2024, he recorded 441 receiving yards with only one touchdown in 37 receptions. His best season with Colorado was actually 2023, when he had 567 receiving yards, with six touchdown catches in 58 catches.

Georgia Tech Haynes King is ready for Coach Prime’s Colorado
Georgia Tech will open up its season with a trip to Folsom Field in Week 1, facing Coach Prime’s Buffaloes. Quarterback Haynes King appears to have already set his mind on the encounter, recently giving the Infinity Sports Network a detailed outline of Colorado’s defense:
“I’ve watched them a little bit on defense already,” King told the Infinity Sports Network. “The way that they play, they’re gonna play fast, play physical, rally to the ball, there’s not gonna be a lot of mistakes. They’re gonna try and play mistake-free football and just play fast and rally to the ball. They’re gonna play physical, fast and they’re gonna be coached really good because they have a lot of great coaches on that staff and great recruiters as well.”
Haynes is coming into his sixth and final season of college football, after leading the Yellow Jackets in arguably his best season last year. The 2024 season included a couple of highlights, against then No. 10 Florida State and later against No. 4 Miami.
The Yellow Jackets are the favorites for the Week 1, Friday, encounter with ESPN Bet, making them 4.5 favorites at the moment. The game is set for 8 pm ET, and it will air on ESPN.
