Shedeur Sanders Impresses Titans, Draws Joe Burrow Comparison

The NFL Draft process 2025 is currently underway. The major event, the NFL Combine, will commence later this month, on Feb. 27, in Indianapolis. However, this will not stop the ongoing talk among NFL teams about what they’ve witnessed so far and who they’re keeping an eye on.

Sanders, who had an outstanding senior season at Colorado, leading his conference in passing yards and touchdowns and earning the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year Award, recently spoke with the Titans’ staff, which included newly hired general manager Mike Borgonzi.

Head coach Brian Callahan’s recent comparison between Sanders and Joe Burrow signifies rising hype in the Colorado quarterback ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. Callahan is looking for an elite quarterback after the Will Levis project seemingly failed, and Sanders has emerged as a viable contender for the No. 1 overall draft choice.

Callahan did not make a direct comparison between Sanders and Burrow, but he does see a similar ability to anticipate throws between the two.

“People had questions about Burrow’s arm strength in general coming out,” Callahan told ESPN. “One of the things that makes Joe so unique, and I think you can probably put Shedeur in the same conversation. … They anticipate when they throw it; they have the timing and accuracy on top of it. That makes up for the arm strength.

“Those things are how you make up for maybe not having the biggest arm. If you’re throwing on time and putting a ball when and where you’re supposed to go, you’re not going to have too many problems.”

While Burrow had concerns about his arm strength coming out of college, his ability to deliver the ball with precision and rhythm propelled him to immediate success in the NFL.

Callahan, Burrow’s offensive coordinator with the Cincinnati Bengals for four seasons, was instrumental in turning the former LSU star into one of the league’s top quarterbacks.

Sanders’ impact on Colorado football was indisputable, even though his college career didn’t have the same level of team success as Burrow’s historic 2019 season at LSU.

Sanders is ranked just outside the top-10 selection picks and is regarded as the No. 2 QB prospect behind Miami’s Cam Ward. Still, the Titans’ interest and comparison to Burrow could have a huge impact on his draft rating.

The Titans have plenty of time before assessing their first overall pick, but Callahan might have his sights set on Sanders.
