Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is in the middle of the training camp ahead of the upcoming 2025 NFL season. There’s a good chance he could make the 53-man roster as a third-string quarterback behind Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.
During his Saturday media availability, one reporter asked if Shedeur would like his father and Hall of Famer Deion Sanders to come and see him at the training camp. The fifth-round pick said he needs to work harder and get more reps under his belt so that when his father comes in to see him, he leaves being proud.
“Because, I mean, I look at it from my own point of view,” Shedeur told reporters. “Like, I don’t want him coming to see me right now because I want to get to where I want to go and then have him see me. I don’t want him to come and see me get a couple of reps, and he’s cheering like a good dad. Nah, you can’t be proud of me right now.
“I’ve got to get to where I’m going, and I know there’s a lot I’ve got to do to get there. So it’s kind of like I just want everything I’m doing right now to be focused on this moment. And I don’t want any distractions, because we know how the media is, we know how everybody would take it and how it could take away from the team, just from him being my dad and showing up. So, you know, it’s a gift and a curse at the same time.”

Deion Sanders, who underwent bladder surgery this summer, was earlier spotted at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp to watch his other son, Shilo Sanders, in action. Shilo was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Buccaneers.

Shedeur Sanders Battling for Playing Time in a Crowded Browns’ QB Room
The Browns’ quarterback room has continued to grab headlines all summer. The quarterback room comprises proven veterans such as Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco. Last year’s starter, Deshaun Watson, is currently nursing his torn ACL injury. Moreover, the organization drafted two rookies in this year’s draft. They drafted Oregon star Dillon Gabriel, and two rounds later, they picked Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders as the 144th pick.
While Flacco leads the veteran group and Pickett was seen taking first-team reps early in camp, Sanders has been mostly limited to backup reps. But with Pickett’s injury and Dillon Gabriel taking the lion’s share of first-team reps, the possibility of Sanders taking the QB1 or QB2 role is unlikely. Currently, Sanders is sidelined for the time being due to shoulder soreness.
