Sanders was finally picked up by the Browns at No. 144 overall in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. This came as a shock to many to see how far he slid down. It was especially interesting to see how the Browns handled the 2025 NFL Draft, as the day before they took Sanders, they drafted Dillon Gabriel to be their next quarterback.
Sanders won the Johnny Unitas award as one of the top quarterbacks in 2024. He was also named first-team All-American by multiple publications, and second-team All-American by the AP. He was the unanimous choice for the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. He was named first team All-Big 12 by all the publications that picked the team.
Sanders threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions with an NFL quarterback rating of 117.0 and college passer rating of 165.9. He also threw a touchdown in an NCAA Division I record of 49 straight games. He is one of only two Division I quarterbacks to throw for 14,000 yards and complete 70 percent of his career passes between Colorado and Jackson State.
Sanders has the opportunity to win the Cleveland starting quarterback job, should he be able to outduel Super Bowl-winning veteran Joe Flacco and fellow rookie-draftee, Gabriel. Despite the slip, Sanders has the chance to make many teams pay who passed on him in the first four rounds.
