Former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is in a difficult situation on the Cleveland Browns. He is competing for playing time against three other QBs: Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel. He entered training camp as the fourth-string quarterback and was the only QB not getting reps with the first-team.
Sanders got more reps on the second team this week after Pickett went down with a hamstring injury earlier this week. However, after missing three practices, Pickett returned to practice on Friday. Before getting injured, Pickett was splitting most of the first-team reps with Joe Flacco.
On Friday, Cleveland Browns insider Nathan Zegura appeared on “Training Camp Insider” on the Browns’ YouTube channel. He spoke about various things about the training camp, including Shedeur Sanders. He explained that despite the injury to Pickett, Sanders has not gotten first-team reps, even though he is looking good.
“Kenny Pickett wasn’t in team drills. So, we were wondering, would we see an uptick in reps for Shedeur Sanders, and the answer was no, we would not,” Nathan Zegura said (3:25). “Got some work with the second team, mostly with the third team here today. He had some nice throws, especially in rhythm. When he gets that ball out quickly, he is very accurate.”
“Made some nice throws, but people who are wondering, would he get first-team reps? That did not happen today. And you got to imagine when Kenny Picket comes back, it’s going to be even harder to come by for the Browns’ fifth-round pick,” he added.

Shedeur Sanders Earns Praise From a Cleveland Browns Legend
Shedeur Sanders continues to stay in the QB4 position on the Cleveland Browns’ depth chart. Despite that, he has kept a positive attitude and continues to work hard at camp. This has gotten attention from fans and members of the media. This week, it even earned him praise from Cleveland Browns legendary quarterback Bernie Kosar. He spoke about how much he likes how Sanders is handling his situation.
“I love how he’s handling some things,” Kosar said. “He’s out here an hour early, and that’s working out type stuff, and then he’s one of the last guys here.”
As things stand, it seems unlikely that Sanders will earn the starting job by Week 1 of the NFL season. However, no one is locked into the job, so even if he is in a depth role at the start of the year, he could earn playing time later in the season.
