“He Killing Them”: Shannon Sharpe Bluntly Criticises Colorado QB Kaidon Salter While Begging Deion Sanders for Changes

The Colorado Buffaloes’ season is going from bad to worse, with Deion Sanders’ team moving to a record of 2-4 after this weekend’s defeat to the TCU Horned Frogs 35-21. Once more, the shakiest part of their starting lineup seemed to be the quarterback position, with Kaidon Salter providing yet another mediocre start.

Salter recorded perhaps the worst numbers of his season so far. While he had an acceptable 217 passing yards, with two touchdowns, he did so while posting a 62% completion percentage and throwing three interceptions. At this point in the season, it’s plenty clear that he isn’t cut out for starting duties at a Power Four school.

This is exactly the point Shannon Sharpe was making on Sunday’s episode of “Nightcap” to co-host Chad Ochocinco:

“Man, that quarterback, he killing them Ocho. He killing them” (0:45)

Chad Ochocinco then analyzed the situation, saying that the biggest problem they have is that they aren’t getting consistent quarterback play and that they’re turning over the ball too much. For him, in modern football, your quarterback needs to offer consistency and avoid turnovers, neither of which Salter is providing. He also added that the problem is magnified by the fact that the running game isn’t there to support the quarterback, which in turn leads the offense to have to rely more on passes to advance up the field. Which, in turn, makes the quarterback’s deficiencies more glaring.

Johnny Manziel, who was also on the show, threw in a sliver of hope, saying that he admires Deion Sanders’ professionalism and he has confidence in him to right the ship. However, he admitted that at the moment, Colorado’s season looks like an abject failure.

The problem is that there seems to be no obvious answer to Colorado’s problem, with Deion Sanders having already benched Salter in their Big 12 conference opener against Houston. Backup Ryan Staub proved to be as unreliable a starter as Salter. The next step would be to promote former five-star recruit and untested true freshman Julian Lewis to the starter spot.

What’s the next stop for Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes?

The Buffaloes face a tough encounter in Week 7 against the No. 22 Iowa State Cyclones. This would be the second game for the Buffs against a ranked opponent, with the previous being Week 5’s defeat to No. 18 BYU Cougars.

The Cyclones come spoiling for a fight, after dropping from the No. 14 spot this weekend following an upset by the Cincinnati Bearcats, 38-30, on the road. Iowa State is currently a 3.5 favorite for the game.
