“My Worst Fear”: Shannon Sharpe Voices Concern After Shedeur Sanders Suffers Untimely Injury

The Cleveland Brown‘s quarterback woes continue as Shedeur Sanders has suffered a strained oblique ahead of the joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles, making him miss that practice. This has many worried, as this injury might derail his chances of making the active roster for the regular season.

Sanders is hanging by a thread, as he is ranked No. 4 in the Browns’ QB depth chart, and the NFL only allows three quarterbacks per team in the active roster. His excellent debut against the Carolina Panthers has sparked hopes that he might make the roster, but that could be derailed because of the untimely injury. This concern is echoed by NFL great Shannon Sharpe in his “Night Cap” podcast.

“With all that being said, this is kind of my worst fear because we talked about it last week, and I said I sure hope he can consolidate it. I hope that he can put back-to-back games together, and now it’s like, yeah, he played really, really well in one game, and now he’s hurt and it looks like he’s going to miss the second game and then the third game,” Sharpe explained. “Obviously, Flacco is probably not going to play, but I could have envisioned a scenario that they probably would have released Flacco and went with the other guys. No, absolutely not. You know, that’s not going to happen. That’s not going to happen with your experience in the NFL. As long as you’ve not only played but been covering the NFL, you know they’re not going to start with,” he added.

Sanders was likely the starter for that preseason game against the Eagles on Saturday, but because he missed practice, he may also be missing that game and possibly missing the chance to make the main roster. With Kenny Pickett still out, the Browns chose not to go with their projected QB1, Joe Flacco, but will go with rookie Dillon Gabriel against the Eagles instead.

Cleveland Browns Staff Only Revealed Shedeur Sanders’ Injury After Practice With Eagles

An oblique strain is not a serious injury, but it could completely derail Shedeur Sander’s season, as it may see him cut from the Browns’ roster entirely. The team only revealed that he injured his shoulder after the joint practice with the Eagles and revealed that he did not get any reps against the defending champions.

Despite this, head coach Kevin Stefanski noted that they are monitoring the situation on a day-to-day basis and that the team is taking a cautious approach to his recovery. This is important as the strained muscle is needed for Sanders to perform well.

For now, Sanders and Kenny Pickett have been sidelined, with the Browns choosing not to play their QB1, Flacco, in the preseason.
