“He Known To Jump Ship”: Shannon Sharpe Accuses Brian Kelly of Eyeing Penn State Job Amid LSU’s 2025 Struggles

There are several head coaching openings in the college football world that has opened up recently, inluding the Penn State job that opened up after they fired James Franklin by paying him a buyout of $50,000,000.

Other than Franklin, Florida is on the lookout for its next head coach after firing Billy Napier, along with more programs like Arkansas, UCLA, Oklahoma State, Stanford and more.

While some programs pulled the trigger on their head coaches, some are keeping theirs on the hot seat, like Hugh Freeze at Auburn, Mike Norvell at FSU and Brian Kelly at LSU.

After Kelly’s Tigers faced a disappointing loss against Vanderbilt during their week 8 showdown, Shannon Sharpe and Johnny Manziel floated a theory talking about whether the LSU head coach is under performing on purpose as he might be eyeing the Penn State job.

“The guy that you’re mentoring the Vanderbelt Commodores the number 17 Vanderbelt Commodores 31 the number 10 LSU Tigers 24 Pavia 14 to 22 161 touchdowns no interceptions quarterback the ball nor the quarterback was on the ground he had another 17 carries for 86 yards and another two touchdowns so he had three total touchdowns they ran the ball 45 times for 239 yards Uh yeah, you man, you know, uh Brian Kelly now, you know, he known to jump ship, you know, Penn State job opening because he Cincinnati to Notre Dame, Notre Dame to LSU.” Sharpe said.

“It’s a lot easier route up there in that conference, that’s for sure.
And he’s going to have a lot less of a hot seat up there. It’ll be nice and comfy, cushy, new contract.” Johnny Maziel added. (0:50)

Paul Finebaum Weighs In on Brian Kelly’s Troubled LSU Tenure

The Vanderbilt loss was a big one for Brian Kelly, which is why analyst Matt Barrie minced no words while declaring that LSU is most probably out of the playoffs race in 2025.

Talking about the equation between LSU fans and Kelly after the Vanderbilt loss, Paul Finebaum said that even though the Commodores were expected to give LSU a hard fight as it’s not the same team they used to be, it’s hard to sell that to the LSU fans because of the place they are at currently.

Finebaum also highlighted that Kelly might not be happy with Barrie’s assessment of LSU’s playoffs chances, however, he believes the Tigers are working pretty hard on pulling themselves out of the contention.

He further added while LSU might win this week against Texas A&M, their playoff hopes will be crushed in Tuscaloosa as they face Alabama in about three weeks.
