South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer has heard the rumblings about other teams’ interest in LaNorris Sellers. During a media session at the 2025 SEC Kickoff on Monday, the coach shared how he navigated tampering concerns about his starting quarterback, which was shared by reporter Jordan Kaye on his X account.
Bruce Feldman of The Athletic recently interviewed Sellers’ father, Norris, who revealed that his son was offered $8 million by a school to transfer from South Carolina. The 20-year-old refused the huge offer, opting to play for the Gamecocks for another season. Beamer explained the reason why Sellers arrived at the decision.
“I think he knows, one — this is home and he has everything that he needs here to be successful,” Beamer said. “We didn’t have a lot of in-depth conversations in regards to, ‘Hey, man, I really want you to stay,’ and ‘Are you leaving?’ I don’t know if we had that conversation because maybe I was naive, but I knew he loved it here.”
Beamer weighed in on Sellers’ comfort level at South Carolina, having won nine games last season as the Gamecocks’ starting QB. For the coach, that success means more than the money that other schools offer.
“He’s playing as well as any quarterback in the country in the last season. He’s coming back on a really good team and he loves being here. Why the hell would you leave?” Beamer asked. “I know money is an aspect of it, but it was also, don’t mess with happiness either. He’s got a great situation here.”
Beamer concluded his answer by saying that his players enjoy being part of the South Carolina program, suggesting that they have a great atmosphere within the team and that they can reach their goals and realize their dreams.

Their previous campaign included a six-game winning streak during the regular season, with four of the victories coming against ranked opponents.
