Seahawks Projected To Select Fearless 4,000-Yard QB in 2026 NFL Draft To Usher in New Era

After a 2025 season where quarterback Sam Darnold struggled behind a lackluster offensive line, the Seattle Seahawks are considering a potential bold move in the 2026 NFL Draft.

If the Seahawks make a change at quarterback, analysts point to a dynamic, 4,000-yard passer who could redefine the team’s future and energize a fan base hungry for a comeback.

Seattle Seahawks May Make A Move For Star SEC QB in 2026 NFL Draft

According to our three-round 2026 NFL Mock Draft, the Seahawks are projected to select LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier with the 10th overall pick next April. Nussmeier, nicknamed the “Nuss Buss,” has a skill set that’s exactly what Seattle needs right now.

In 2024, Nussmeier threw for over 4,000 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just 12 interceptions, showing off his ability to lead an effective offense.

His best trait, though, is sack avoidance, which can prove to be a game-changer for a Seahawks’ offensive line that left Darnold scrambling too often last season.

    Why Does Seattle Needs Him?

The Seahawks’ 2025 season exposed glaring weaknesses. Darnold, a journeyman starter, faced relentless pressure, with Seattle’s offensive line surrendering over 45 sacks. Unlike his time with the Minnesota Vikings, Darnold lacked top-of-the-line teammates and play-calling to mask the line’s flaws.

Nussmeier’s knack for evading sacks, which has him ranked in the top 10 in college football for pressure avoidance, makes him the ideal fit for the Seahawks. His quick release and anticipation on throws, especially to the slot, align perfectly with Seattle’s receivers, Cooper Kupp and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Nussmeier thrives in tight-window throws. His 64.2% completion rate and 8.1 yards per attempt in 2024 show that he can stretch defenses while limiting mistakes. His performance against Alabama last season earned him SEC Player of the Week honors.

The Seahawks haven’t had a true franchise quarterback since Russell Wilson’s prime. Nussmeier, with his bold style of play, could change that. His fit with Kupp and Smith-Njigba, paired with his pocket elusiveness, makes him a high-upside pick.

If Seattle can shore up its offensive line, then Nussmeier might just lead the team back to the playoffs, reigniting hopes for the Seahawks.
