‘I Played for Bill’ – UCF’s Scott Frost Makes Feelings Clear for Reunion With Bill Belichick in Early Season Matchup Against UNC

UCF coach Scott Frost shared his thoughts about UNC coach Bill Belichick during Tuesday’s interview with ESPNU at Big 12 Media Days. Frost made his feelings clear about his upcoming reunion with his former coach when asked about the Knights’ 2025 schedule.

Host Matt Barrie told Frost during their chat that the Big 12 Conference from top to bottom is probably the deepest in the nation. Frost agreed with Barrie’s sentiment about UCF’s tough schedule, which includes an early meeting with Belichick’s North Carolina.

“It is. You know, I’ve been watching the league from afar for a couple years and what I love about the league is it’s fair and it’s balanced,” Frost said (timestamp 6:15). “You can make an argument any team in this league could win this league if they put it together and play well. And I don’t think that’s the case in every league.”

Frost is particularly excited about UCF’s first three home games to start the season, one of which is a clash against the Tar Heels. He looks forward to locking horns with Belichick, whom he worked with before in the NFL.

“I played for Bill for two years with the New York Jets when I was starting my career so I haven’t seen him in a long time. But I know how great a coach he is so we’ll have a real challenge there.”

Belichick worked with the New York Jets from 1997 to 1999, serving as Bill Parcells’ defensive coordinator and assistant coach. Frost started his NFL career with the Jets in 1998, playing 13 games as a defensive back in his rookie season. He gained Belichick’s trust, playing 14 more games under the legendary coach in the 1999 season. Frost recorded nine total tackles during those two years.
