The Colorado Buffaloes are preparing for their third game of the season this Friday night, when they play the Houston Cougars at TDECU Stadium in Houston. At the moment, the Buffs are 1-1, losing in Week 1 against Georgia Tech but winning confidently in Week 2 against Delaware.
However, as many analysts have pointed out, Delaware isn’t a true strength test for a Big 12 program. The game against the Cougars will better determine if the loss to the Yellow Jackets was a fluke or if there’s a bigger problem going on in Boulder.
The Buffs are already on the road to Houston, at least judging by Warren Sapp’s Instagram account. The Colorado pass rush coordinator posted a picture to his Instagram feed in what looks like an airliner seat while holding a Buffaloes mug.
“Road Trip! #SkoBuffs #FridayNightLights #HtownActionBaby” Sapp Wrote in the caption.

Colorado set to start Ryan Staub against Houston Cougars
For Week 3, Deion Sanders has decided to swap things around a bit in the quarterback position. Kaidon Salter has been benched in favor of backup Ryan Staub, who has been named as a starter for Week 3’s encounter against Houston.
Staub took over Salter halfway through the second quarter of the victory over Delaware. He threw for 157 yards, with two touchdown passes, and had a 70% completion percentage. After the game, Deion Sanders had nothing but praise for Staub.
“Not only did he take advantage of it, he was ready for it,” Sanders said after the game. “And he’s now such a team guy… I want to see how my players are reacting. I want to see who’s up, who’s playing around, who’s intense, who is ready to play, who’s supporting one another. And one thing about Staub, when those other guys out there, he’s right there… He’s in the game 100%.”
Staub is a former three-star recruit from the class of 2023, who has spent his entire career with the Boulder school. In three seasons, he has only played in eight games for the Buffaloes, and only started once back in 2023.
The game against the Cougars will determine if the starting job is truly his or not. Colorado comes in as a 4.5 favorite, although the ESPN game predictor is giving Houston a 57.9% chance of winning the encounter. The game is set for 7:30 pm ET and will air on ESPN.
