The total saw some similar movement, shifted up a few points after an impressive Week 3 offensive performance from both teams. However, the under could be the play, as it has hit in six of SJSU’s last nine games and in five of WSU’s last six against Mountain West opponents.

In terms of the spread, recent trends favor the Spartans. The Cougars are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 contests as a double-digit favorite, while San Jose State is 9-3 ATS in its last 12 as a double-digit underdog.

Prediction for San Jose State vs. Washington State

Former Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo pulled the ole switcharoo since landing in San Jose. After his Navy offenses used to average roughly two pass attempts per game during his time in Annapolis, he’s got his offense throwing the ball 30+ times in each of the last three games. But it’s not only because Emmett Brown, who will get to face his former team on Friday, has been a revelation under center.

Though the running game hasn’t quite caught it, it hasn’t mattered because WR Nick Nash has simply taken over.

He leads the nation with six receiving touchdowns, and against the Owls last week, he set the program single-game receptions record with 17 for 225 yards and three scores.

The Cougars just upset in-state rival Washington in the Apple Cup after dropping 70 on Portland State in Week 1 and defeated Texas Tech 37-16 in the Mike Leach Legacy Bowl in Week 2.

QB John Mateer has been electric, averaging 10.2 yards per attempt with seven TDs against two INTs in this torrid start to the year. But what truly sets him apart is his dual-threat ability, as he leads the team on the ground with 314 yards and four scores so far on the ground this year.

While the Spartans don’t have the same offensive firepower outside of Nash, the Cougars’ defense has been a sieve, allowing 464.0 yards per game (ninth most) to San Jose State’s 248.3 (20th fewest). Wazzu will likely pull off the win at home, but expect SJSU to cover and for the under to hit.

Prediction: San Jose State 20, Washington State 24
