The Arizona State Sun Devils’ season took a tumble for the worse. Quarterback Sam Leavitt will have to undergo surgery to repair what now seems like a season-ending foot injury he suffered against the Baylor Bears in late September. He was recently seen in a walking boot and had already been dismissed for the game against Iowa State later this week.
Leavitt has been playing through the injury, suiting up against TCU, Texas Tech, and Houston, but missed a game against Utah a couple of weeks ago.

The Sun Devils’ season has been going poorly, with the possibility of repeating last year’s qualification into the College Football Playoff already off the table. One of their defeats came against Utah, a game in which Leavitt didn’t play, and more recently, they fell to Houston last week in a game in which he was clearly struggling. They currently have a record of 5-3.

Kenny Dillingham On Sam Leavitt’s Injury
Speaking with the press when he broke the news about Sam Leavitt’s season-ending injury, coach Kenny Dillingham said the following:
“ Early in the Baylor game,” Dillingham said the injury occurred. “So it’s been something that’s been lingering. Like I said, he’s been battling and fighting. He’s the ultimate competitor. This is like the worst, obviously, news that he wanted to hear because it means he can’t play football. He loves the game of football. He loves this place. So, it’s definitely unfortunate for him.”
Fortunately, Sam Leavitt has plenty of eligibility left and can return for further seasons with the Sun Devils. Having redshirted in his first season at Michigan State, he should have two more seasons of eligibility.
Jeff Sims will fill up for Leavitt.
