‘Following Saban Isn’t Easy’: CFB Analyst Shares Candid Prediction for Kalen DeBoer’s Future at Alabama

Kalen DeBoer’s first year at Alabama did not go as many fans had hoped. When the former Washington Huskies head coach joined the Crimson Tide program, analysts like Josh Pate thought it was a homerun.

However, after going 9-4 during the 2024 college football season, many have now put DeBoer on a potential hot seat if he doesn’t meet the Alabama standard this year as well.

While some analysts look at DeBoer with a microscope now, Adam Breneman expressed his faith in the Alabama head coach, stating that he believes replacing a guy like Nick Saban is not an easy task but DeBoer will do a good job at it.

“I do think to follow a guy like Nick Saban, it takes a guy with a lot of confidence and a guy who’s very comfortable in his own skin. And I think Caitlin de Moore is that to a team, he knows who he is. He doesn’t care about him getting the credit, versus Nick Saban versus what did Nick Saban do best? I actually sat down with him when he was in Alabama as well.”

Breneman shared about the time when he asked DeBoer how he balances between the changes he wants to make and what Saban had going at Alabama. As per the analyst, DeBoer responded by saying why would he want to change many things, and felt his ego isn’ that big.

Adam Breneman further added in the caption of the post:

“Following Saban isn’t easy..but DeBoer knows how to lead.”

Kalen DeBoer Weighs In on Alabama’s QB Situation

After Jalen Milroe led the Crimson Tide crew for two years in a row, it was time for Kalen DeBoer to pick the program’s next leading man from Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and five-star recruit Keelon Russell.

DeBoer was asked during the SEC Media Days about why he did not pick a QB from the transfer portal this year. He opined that anybody who reached out to them or that was available was not really better than what they already had.

“You could really not make an argument that they were better than what we had. Hopefully that’s another level of confidence that we have some players in our program that we believe in. Ty, Austin, and knowing Keelon was coming in as well.”

Ty Simpson is widely expected to be the starting quarterback for Alabama in 2025 as they gear up to kick off the 2025 college football season against FSU on Aug. 30.
