The Texas Longhorns rested this weekend, as they prepare to start their SEC schedule next weekend when they’re scheduled to play the Florida Gators at the Swamp in Gainesville. Their last game was an easy victory over Sam Houston in Week 4, which they won 55-0.
The victory was an important one for the team’s confidence, as Week 3 brought a wobbly performance against the UTEP Miners, which they won 27-10, but without looking like their best selves. It was incredibly reinvigorating that they won their last game with such a shutout.

Wide receiver Aaron Butler took some time on Monday morning to celebrate last week’s victory, with some pictures of the confident 55-0 victory over Sam Houston. This got a reaction from fellow receiver Ryan Wingo, who wrote the following in the post’s comment section:

Wingo was the leading receiver for the Longhorns against Sam Houston, with four receptions for 93 yards and two touchdown catches. Butler had one catch for 17 yards, the first of the freshman’s college football career.
Wingo is Texas’s second-best receiver, with 190 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions in 13 catches. Above him is Parker Livingstone with 232 receiving yards and three touchdown catches in 11 receptions.
Texas’s Steve Sarkisian on Arch Manning’s prospects for the rest of the season
One of the biggest worries for Texas Longhorns fans so far this season is that quarterback Arch Manning seems to have been playing nowhere near the level he was expected to. Hailed in the preseason as a Heisman favorite, Manning was incredibly poor, especially against the UTEP Miners when he threw for just 114 yards, with one touchdown, one interception, and a completion percentage of 44%.
It was a relief then, when he threw for 309 yards, with three touchdowns and an 85.7% completion percentage against Sam Houston. In the aftermath of the 55-0 victory, coach Steve Sarkisian revealed he had a productive talk with Manning after the UTEP game, which helped him set a new baseline for the quarterback’s performances:
“Arch and I, we’ve got a very good relationship, I think one where we can be open and honest with one another,” Sarkisian said. “The meeting was more about just how I think he can play really good, and here’s the approach, and here’s how we’re going to try to get it done.”
He also made a call to block outside noise, mentioning that a lot of people in and around the program had called him to express their opinion on how to fix Arch Manning. The coach expressed that he prefers to hold his own opinion on the matter.
