The Colorado Buffaloes will be starting Ryan Staub under center for this week’s game against the Houston Cougars. Staub was a third-string quarterback to start the season behind Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis, but after two games, Coach Prime is ready to change the team’s starting quarterback.
This comes after Staub’s impressive display in the team’s Week 2 31-7 win over Delaware, in which he completed 7 of 10 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Now ahead of his first career start in Colorado, fans have been wanting to know more about his family, especially his brother Jared Staub.
Who is Jared Staub? Meet Ryan Staub’s older brother ahead of Colorado’s Week 3 game
Jared Staub, born on Feb. 22, 2001, is the older brother of Ryan Staub, who grew up in Stevenson Ranch, California, and attended West Ranch High School. The brothers were born to Marianne Staub and Craig Staub.
Ryan transferred to Sierra Canyon School, where he joined Jared before returning again to West Ranch.
“I guess at the time, it was just the best fit for me and my brother, my family,” Staub said of going to Sierra Canyon. “And things happened, and I came back to my hometown school, and it was the best decision I ever made. And I have never looked back since. I think it worked out pretty well in my favor.”
Like his younger brother, Jared Staub also played football for Sierra Canyon School. There, he was part of several notable runs, including Division 3 CIF Champions, Division 2 Champions, and Division 1A State Runner Up.
For college, Jare went to the University of California and joined the Golden Bears football team as a wide receiver. According to the program’s archives, he measured 6′0″ and 190 lbs. He redshirted in 2019, did not play in 2020, and played as a redshirt sophomore in 2021.
As far as academics go, he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 2023. On his LinkedIn profile, he writes:
“I’m a UC Berkeley economics graduate with expertise in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. Skilled in data analysis, critical thinking, and research. Eager to apply economic insights to real-world challenges.”
Jared Staub later shifted to an acting career.
