When Ryan Silverfield took over the Memphis Tigers, expectations were high. He followed Mike Norvell and Justin Fuente, two coaches who took the program to new heights. So winning was a priority.
A first-time head coach, Silverfield wouldn’t command what the other two were making, but what salary, contract, and net worth does the Tigers coach command at the AAC frontrunner?
Ryan Silverfield’s Salary and Contract in 2024
When Silverfield took over the Tigers program, he signed a five-year deal that paid him $9.25 million. He was also eligible to receive up to $500,000 in annual performance incentives and received an assistant pool of $3 million.
After the 2020 season, the administration added another year onto his contract without changing his pay. The change was “due to the impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” according to the university.
While it didn’t change his yearly salary, Silverfield went from a five-year contract worth $9.25 million to a six-year contract worth $11.25 after that one-year increase to the term. If terminated before the end of his contract, the university will pay Silverfield 60 percent of his total compensation.
It was an extension of sorts, but now he’s looking at an actual extension with incentives. At the time of writing, the Tigers were in the process of giving him an extension with “contract language” the only remaining barrier to it being a done deal.
Silverfield receives various bonuses for on-field achievements. If Memphis reaches a bowl game, he gets $25,000, and an additional $50,000 if the Tigers win that bowl game. If they win eight games in a season, a $75,000 bonus kicks in, with an additional $25,000 for each subsequent win.
Silverfield’s Net Worth
At the time of writing, Silverfield’s net worth sits at $11.5 million, but it is set to increase when a new contract extension is agreed upon and the details are made public. However, his net worth doesn’t include bonuses and previous salary as an assistant, and his actual value to the Memphis program is challenging to quantify.
Even when he received a contract extension, Silverfield also ensured his staff benefitted. It helped him create a successful season in 2023 as multiple coaches made six-figure salaries.

Silverfield wants his program to win like every other coach, but he was willing to invest his own money to prove it. In a game against the Tulane Green Wave, Silverfield wanted to ensure that the Tigers would have a proper home-field advantage by purchasing 2,500 tickets for fans to claim free of charge.
