Former LSU and Alabama head coach Nick Saban is considered one of the greatest college football coaches ever. These days, he is enjoying his retirement and works as an analyst on ESPN.
Recently, there have been rumours that Saban is interested in making his coaching return. An ESPN colleague of his, however, is having none of it.
Paul Finebaum, an SEC Network analyst and colleague of Saban, addressed these rumors during his appearance on McElroy & Cubelic In The Morning and tried to put them to rest. He said that the ESPN analyst and former coach is just enjoying his retirement these days.
“No, I’ve—That’s what I said. And Greg, I—you know Nick Saban better than I do, but I ran into somebody the other day who spends time with Saban in Florida—you can imagine where— and said that he is literally having the time of his life,” Paul Finebaum said.
He added:
“Yeah, and why wouldn’t he? And I feel like I’m much closer to Nick Saban’s age than you are, and I can assure you, when you have everything you want, and you start playing golf at the best golf clubs in America, and you start making friends who belong to even better golf clubs, and you make a lot of money for doing very little work on TV— the interest in doing what he walked away from is not very high.”

Greg McElroy Says ‘Notable Person’ Believes Nick Saban Will Come Out of Retirement
It was host Greg McElroy, a former football star in Alabama himself, who suggested that Nick Saban could come out of retirement during the podcast. He noted that somebody close to Saban himself was the source of these rumors and that the unnamed source was “adamant” that the former Alabama head coach will be returning to coaching soon. Speaking to Paul Finebaum, McElroy said:
“This is a little bit out of left field, but the question was asked of me … a very much in the know person that I have a lot of respect for and have spent a lot of time around and just really, really admire.”
He also went on to add that his source was “someone notable” and stated that he wouldn’t have said anything at all had the source been less credible. McElroy did not name his source, but maintained that it is someone “significant.”
