Ahead of the 2026 college football season, a lot of players have announced their intention to enter the January transfer portal, with one more addition to the long list of departures.
Amidst a lot of signal callers like Dylan Raiola, DJ Lagway, Brendan Sorsby, Sam Leavitt, Aidan Chiles, and Drew Mestemaker set to be a part of the transfer portal, which is slated to run from January 2 to January 16, Iowa State Cyclones’ star quarterback Rocco Becht has announced his departure. Iowa State Cyclones are set to partake in the transfer portal.
Becht, who has been the Iowa-based program’s starting quarterback for the last three years, is a hot prospect for a lot of teams. However, one program that has stood out and is reportedly interested in signing Becht is Penn State.

Becht’s links to the Nittany Lions come on the backdrop of head coach Matt Campbell’s move from Iowa State to Penn State after being with the Cyclones since 2016.
However, Campbell is not the only Iowa State coaching staff member set to join the Nittany Lions, as offensive coordinator Taylor Mouser is set to depart from Iowa, too.
Most of Rocco Becht’s success has come under the stewardship of both Campbell and Mouser, so the Iowa State quarterback making a potential move to work with familiar faces doesn’t come as a big surprise.

If Rocco Becht’s move to Penn State does come to fruition, the Cyclones will be tasked with finding an apt replacement to fill in for their star quarterback, who has regularly started for them the past three seasons.
Becht’s impact on the Iowa-based program has been immense, as he has the second-highest number of wins as quarterback, accumulating 26 victories, with only Brock Purdy ahead of him with a total of 30 triumphs.
Penn State set to make Taylor Mouser the next offensive coordinator.

Having accumulated a massive 19 rushing touchdowns in 39 consecutive starts for Iowa, Becht has also compiled 9,274 passing yards, while also coming in at number 2 as far as the all-time passing touchdown list is concerned.
