“Hard Time Feeling Bad For Men That Make $300k to $2M”: RJ Young Makes Feelings Very Clear On Kyle Whittingham’s Expected Staff Changes After Michigan Hire

After a rough stretch that almost damaged the reputation of the Michigan program, the Wolverines hired Kyle Whittingham as their next head coach. Whittingham was previously the head coach of the Utah Utes for over two decades.

The 66-year-old is known for his ability to build a culture within a program and his dominant winning record. In his 21 years with the Utes, he won 177 games and lost 88. Michigan needed someone like him at the helm.

But recruiting Whittingham solves just one part of the problem. Implementing his strategy and executing his plans would be a different story. In that process, the program will have to make some tough calls, including hiring new staff and firing those who don’t fit the plan.

In his introductory press conference, Whittingham made it clear that it isn’t going to be a cakewalk, but he’s determined to turn things around for Michigan. On a recent episode of Adapt & Respond, RJ Young made it clear where he stands on this.

Young stated that he understands the need for a makeover of the coaching staff. As far as people losing their jobs are concerned, he couldn’t care less about them, and he has a good reason for the same.

“I have a hard time feeling bad for men that make between $300k and $2 million to coach football,” Young said. “You’ll be able to move. You’ll be able to find another house.”

In the grand scheme of things, people have much bigger problems that they deal with in their day-to-day routine as compared to a position coach losing his job.

Warden Manuel Revealed Why Michigan Signed Kyle Whittingham

When Whittingham signed with the Wolverines, no one doubted his ability to win or build a culture that Michigan desperately needs. The biggest issue in this hire was whether he would be the long-term solution for the program, considering his age is a big factor.

But that’s not something the Michigan athletic director, Warden Manuel, was concerned with. Manuel had a few things on his list that he needed in his next head coach, and Whittingham checked all the boxes.

“Throughout our search, he consistently demonstrated the qualities we value at Michigan: vision, resilience, and the ability to build and sustain championship-caliber teams,” he SAID.

Whittingham, being a highly respected coach, free of controversies, and with a strong legacy, helped Michigan finalize his name for the job.
