Amid Relationship With His Daughter, Lane Kiffin Shares Plans for Whit Weeks at LSU

It’s going to be a tense offseason in Baton Rouge with Lane Kiffin. The new LSU Tigers head coach has joined the program after a historic run with the Ole Miss Rebels. The expectations now, with a team with better resources, will be much higher.

Kiffin has already started working toward that goal. He’s finalizing his staff, moving key pieces around, and actively looking to recruit new talent for the roster. But what about the talent the Tigers already have?

Kiffin understands that the Tigers have a great roster, but under new leadership, some roles might change, which will create space for new players and open a window for existing players. There’s one player Kiffin is definitely keeping.

“Big emphasis on keeping Whit Weeks. That’s a big priority for us,” Kiffin said.

It’s worth noting that Whit Weeks sparked dating rumors with Kiffin’s daughter, Landry Kiffin, earlier this year. Soon, Landry confirmed their relationship with a picture she posted with Weeks on her Instagram.

Some fans believe that this statement is more about family than it is about the team. Weeks was sidelined for the majority of his third year with the Tigers. His production also took a hit, but Kiffin still thinks he can play a vital role on the team.

While speaking about the talent at LSU, Kiffin heaped praise on the LSU players. He stated that he’s aware of their strengths as his former team competed against them. He also acknowledged that rosters change every year.

Kiffin referred to Mississippi’s roster, which had one of the strongest offense and none of the players were from Mississippi. So, with the transfer portal opening soon, Kiffin would hope to take advantage of that.

Lane Kiffin Was Impressed by Ole Miss’ Win

The Ole Miss Rebels played their first game after Kiffin left the program against Tulane. There was a lot of pressure on the Rebels to perform and prove that they could still be a great team without their former head coach.

The Rebels put up a clinical performance. They were dominant from start to finish and won 41-10, a blowout win. When Kiffin was recently asked about it, he said that he enjoyed watching the Rebels dominate.

“It was awesome, that was a great day, it really was,” Kiffin said. “I’m not just saying that. To watch those guys and how much they were smiling and The biggest game in the State of Mississippi. To blow out Tulane like that. It was awesome watching them. I was really excited for him.”

That win felt like a statement. The Rebels announced that their roster could still perform at a high level, despite the turmoil it went through after Kiffin left.
