Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders is confident that he’ll make the 53-man roster as NFL teams contemplate trimming down their roster from 90 players to 53. Sanders, who was picked in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft, is running behind in the Browns quarterback depth chart, which sees Joe Flacco as QB1, followed by backup Kenny Pickett and third-string rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
Ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, Sanders was asked about his chances of making the team. The Colorado standout confidently said:
“Obviously.”

Fans shared their reactions on X. While some said he is acting too confident, others believe he has done enough to earn a spot.
“Bro’s still lucky to have one after taking those 5 sacks,” one fan wrote.
“Browns suck and are losers. He better off somewhere else. I would get sacked too with no coverage. That’s just how they had it setup to be,” another fan commented.
“Tbf neither looked great, and Cleveland doesn’t have good QB record at all. He’s overhyped by the media but underrated by casual fans,” one fan said.
“If he was humble and respectful he may have been drafted earlier. Let this be a lesson to the youth,” one fan took a shot at the QB’s predraft behaviour.
“Earn a spot, don’t bitch about it, man up!” one fan posted.
“Bro got cooked by fourth stringers,” another wrote.

Cleveland GM gives positive update on Shedeur Sanders’ chances of making roster
The Cleveland Browns have a crowded quarterback room. They have six quarterbacks on the roster, but Deshaun Watson is out injured and is likely to miss the first half of the season. This leaves Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders and Tyler Hunter competing for three or four potential QB spots on the 53-man roster.
Flacco has already been announced as the team’s starting quarterback with Pickett backing him up. Both rookies, Shedeur and Gabriel, are likely to be third-string quarterbacks, but the Browns see upside with Gabriel, and that’s why he might have an edge over Sanders.
This means Sanders would only be able to make the roster if Cleveland had four QBs on their roster. Amid speculation about the same, Browns GM Andrew Berry stated that he has no problem having four QBs on the roster.
“Honestly, it’s not much of a decision for us. … We have a room that we like all the guys in there. We don’t really see that as a problem. We more see it as an opportunity,” Berry said.
This should indirectly confirm that Shedeur Sanders will indeed make the final roster as a third-string quarterback.
