Quinn Ewers vs. Shedeur Sanders: Which Draft Slide Shocked Bruce Feldman More?

While Shedeur Sanders’ slide from a potential first-round pick to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft got all the headlines, Quinn Ewers was quietly sliding too.

The new Miami Dolphins quarterback, expected by many to be a fifth-rounder, was selected No. 231 by his new team, landing him solidly behind starter Tua Tagovailoa on the depth chart.

Quinn Ewers’ Drop to the Seventh Round Raises Questions About His Future

On Wednesday’s episode of “The Rich Eisen Show,” Eisen probed Fox Sports and The Athletic’s college football insider Bruce Feldman on which slide surprised him more.

Between Ewers and Sanders, Feldman was quite adamant about who was more surprising.

“It’s Shedeur being taken where he was,” Feldman said. “I was always skeptical whenever I’d hear somebody go ‘Oh, Quinn may be like a second-rounder, some teams like him maybe a third-rounder.’ I had always heard he was like a fifth-round guy,” Feldman said. “I think he was done with what he was doing at Texas, he’d been in college for a long time.”

And while Beck is coming off an injury, Feldman isn’t fully convinced the Hurricanes would have snagged the Texas quarterback over Georgia transfer Carson Beck.

“I don’t know if they [Miami] would have taken him over Carson Beck. I mean, now Carson Beck was coming off a shoulder injury, but I think in terms of physical talent, if you ask people in football circles, Carson Beck was considered a guy who could have been a first-round pick.”

“I mean, he’s got a really quick release, he sees the field well, and I think he’s played in a lot of big games against a lot of really good defenses.”

In fact, Feldman added, concerns about Ewers’ health were rampant too, along with his athleticism — while Beck’s talent puts him near the top of the pool.

“Now, look, Quinn Ewers has played in a bunch of big games, too, but I think people were concerned about his athleticism. They were also concerned about his durability; he’d never finished the season.”

“I think that’s the challenge — I never finished a full season healthy — and there were some other things which you’d look at, where I think on the evaluation they were like ‘Okay, these are things that are concerning with him,’ right? I don’t think they saw any ‘wow’ traits in him, either.”

“He’s got a good arm, but the athleticism is a big concern, so I thought he’s probably in that fifth-round range to begin with, in fact, to go from fifth to seventh is much different than to go from second to fifth, I think.”
