After losing to the Georgia Bulldogs and being sacked seven times last week, Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers’ NFL Draft stock likely took a hit. Or did it?
A deleted social media post from a major recruiting website has caused fans to ask, “What’s going on with Ewers?”
No, Quinn Ewers Sitting Out Is Not True
In a since-deleted Instagram post, 247Sports announced Ewers would sit out the rest of the 2024 season to prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft.
As expected, it appears the post was false.
On3’s Pete Nakos reported that a source close to Ewers confirmed the post is “absolutely not true,” and 247Sports later clarified that the account had been hacked.
Additionally, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Ewers’ representative, Ron Slavin, dismissed the rumors, stating that the quarterback is focused on preparing for Vanderbilt in Week 9.
Ewers practiced with the Longhorns on Monday morning, though he didn’t meet with the media afterward, as he typically does on Mondays.
Despite the apparent inaccuracies in the post, it did come with some merit originally, in the fallout from the Georgia loss for the Longhorns. During that game, Ewers was removed from the lineup in favor of redshirt freshman QB Arch Manning.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian removed Ewers nearing the end of the second quarter after Ewers had thrown for just 17 yards. Coach Sarkisian was quoted afterward as saying that he simply wanted to give the starter a chance to “recalibrate” at the half.
It turned out to be a smart decision, with Ewers guiding the Longhorns to their only points (15) of the game in the third quarter. He wrapped up the night completing 25 of 43 passes for 211 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Sarkisian then expanded on his confidence and praise for Ewers on Monday.
“We got a ton of respect for Quinn, a ton of confidence in Quinn,” Sarkisian said. “I think he is going to come out and play really good football for us here the second half of the season.”
In College Football Network’s Mock Draft Simulator, Ewers is the QB3 and No. 34 overall prospect. He’s completed 68.2% of his passes for 1,101, 11 TDs, and four INTs this season, despite missing some time following an injury against UTSA earlier in the year.
