‘This Guy Always Bounces Back’ — Quinn Ewers Draws Big Shoutout From Texas Coach Steve Sarkisian

Steve Sarkisian praises Quinn Ewers' resilience and development at Texas, highlighting his skills and leadership ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft and NFL Combine.

Quarterback Quinn Ewers has been the starting QB for the Texas Longhorns for the past several seasons. In the past two seasons, he has led his team to back-to-back semifinal appearances in the college football playoff.

While they did not win a national championship, it is still an impressive feat. On Saturday, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian appeared on SportsCenter to discuss Ewers before he is taken in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Steve Sarkisian Gives a Big Shoutout to Quinn Ewers for His Resilience

Ewers did not have the picture-perfect season that many expected from him. He dealt with multiple injuries and needed to miss time early in the season. Sarkisian first spoke about how Texas focuses on development with all of its players.

“Well, I think it’s development, right? One, you look at the measurables when they’re coming out of high school: height, weight, length, speed, and things of that nature. Then, when we get them, are we developing them within schemes that resonate with the NFL?”

Sarkisian continued, “When they watch our players play when they practice, does it translate to the NFL? I think in the weight room, our winter conditioning, our speed training, those things matter. What they’re doing in the classroom, what they’re doing in the community.”

The Texas head coach then discussed what NFL teams should expect from Ewers as he prepares to throw at the NFL Combine on Saturday.

“Well, I think one, they’re gonna see this guy throw tonight. I think he’s gonna throw darts, I really think he’s gonna be on point with his ability to throw the football. I think something that gets lost, this guy has had to endure a lot in his time with us at the University of Texas, is his resiliency. This guy always bounces back. He had to fight through a bunch of big injuries along the way.

“Played in a lot of big-time games. Some of those things are hard to measure right at a Combine or at a Pro Day, but I think the totality of who he is as a QB is going to be helpful for him.”

Ewers is projected to be a mid-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. His position on big boards is typically within the top 10 QBs, but where in the rankings varies based on the ranker. ESPN’s Mel Kiper has him as the ninth-best QB in his class.
