Quinn Ewers Landing Spots: Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders Lead Best Fits for the Texas QB

Explore the potential landing spots for Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers while looking at his 2025 NFL Draft profile.

Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is a divisive prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft. After leading the program to the College Football Playoff, the Longhorns passer is now looking ahead to a pro career, leaving Arch Manning the QB1 role in Austin.

    Quinn Ewers Landing Spots

Ewers is a quarterback project. The Texas prospect has shown the potential to be a playmaking force, but his inconsistency has prevented him from being widely regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the class.

As a result, Ewers is best projected as a developmental prospect who would benefit from sitting behind an established starter, learning and refining his skills until he’s ready to step in when the time comes.

The problem for Ewers will be that NFL coaches are rarely given that time to develop quarterbacks.

    Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams have their quarterback of the present in Matthew Stafford. Still, with the veteran approaching 37 and retirement rumors circulating in recent seasons, it would be prudent for Los Angeles to start planning for the future.

With Stafford and Jimmy Garoppolo on the roster, there would be no immediate pressure for Ewers. He would enter a quarterback-friendly system under Sean McVay and have the opportunity to learn behind a Super Bowl champion and seasoned pro.

    Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders are in a quarterback dilemma. Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew have shown they are not the answer, and with a new head coach and general manager taking over at Allegiant Stadium, the franchise is entering a new era.

Drafting Ewers would make sense for the Raiders if they can bring in a competent veteran quarterback and allow the Texas rookie to develop behind him. The former Longhorn needs time to refine his game, and if the new regime can provide that opportunity, he could eventually develop into a capable starter.

    Pittsburgh Steelers

There is some definite uncertainty in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback room, with Russell Wilson establishing himself as the starter in 2024 but struggling down the stretch. Head coach Mike Tomlin referenced Justin Fields’ talent in recent days, pointing to a potential 2025 role.

Ewers would offer them a developmental talent who can sit behind Wilson and learn how to operate an NFL offense before taking over once he is ready.

    New York Jets

The New York Jets find themselves in a precarious position at quarterback, with Aaron Rodgers’ future uncertain. With other pressing needs to address, they’ll likely focus on other positions early in the draft. However, if the legendary starter returns or the team opts for a veteran quarterback, selecting Ewers in the later rounds could make sense.

New York has struggled with rushing quarterbacks into action too early, as seen with Zach Wilson and Sam Darnold. If the Jets can afford Ewers the luxury of sitting, refining his fundamentals, and developing his potential, they could unlock the natural playmaking ability of the former five-star recruit.

    Seattle Seahawks

Geno Smith has been more than serviceable as a starter in Seattle, but the Seahawks QB will turn 35 in October. The front office has also been silent when questioned about the future of the position, and they haven’t drafted a quarterback outside of the seventh round since Russell Wilson in 2012.

If the Seahawks were to draft Ewers in later rounds, it wouldn’t be with the expectation of him starting in 2025. Instead, it would be an opportunity for Ewers to develop behind Smith, providing the Texas quarterback with time to learn and grow before potentially taking the reins.

Quinn Ewers 2025 NFL Draft Profile

Ewers has the physical traits and raw talent of an NFL starting quarterback, but his fundamentals and various bad habits need significant improvement before he can be considered a viable starter.

At 6’2″ and 210 pounds, the Texas quarterback is flashy but inconsistent. However, if given the chance to develop in a quarterback-friendly system, where he can refine his skills and learn behind an established starter for at least one season, he has the potential to become a successful prospect.

    Strengths

    • Has the physical profile and natural tools to be a playmaker at the next level, but he hasn’t showcased consistent execution.
    • Flashes the ability to throw with anticipation. He can use his accuracy and awareness to throw receivers open and layer the ball.
    • Ewers has the arm talent to mix up his arm angles and throw with different trajectories. Has an intense fastball but also has the touch to hit receivers downfield.
    • Confident in making plays off platform and has the agility to make plays on the move.

    Weaknesses

    • Far too inconsistent to be viewed as an immediate starter or a potential high draft selection.
    • Ewers’ mechanics are sporadic and need rebuilding. He is too slack in his base and freestyles his mechanics rather than operating in rhythm.
    • Footwork is clunky and inconsistent. Body movement is not coordinated when setting to throw, often leading to him putting too much air under his throws.
    • He tends to force throws when pressured, and his base is not set correctly. This causes the ball to fade on receivers, giving defenders opportunities for takeaways.
    • He needs to improve his field vision and quicken up his progressions. Too often receivers are wide open, but Ewers hasn’t gotten off his reads.
    • Bails out of too many clean pockets.
    • He isn’t elite enough of an athlete to make up for his deficiencies.
