Quinn Ewers Reportedly Lost Nearly $5 Million by Entering NFL Draft Instead of Transferring

Quinn Ewers was considered one of the brightest QB prospects in the country not long ago. Fast forward to now, one ‘wrong’ decision to choose the NFL Draft instead of transferring follows up to a $5 million blow for the quarterback.

As the nation’s top player coming out of the school and a 5-star recruit, his future at this year’s draft seemed bright. However, Ewers had to wait until the 7th round to hear his name called, as the Miami Dolphins picked him. The disappointment was there for everyone to see, as the quarterback was expecting to be an early-round pick.

Report Claims Quinn Ewers Lost $5 Million by Choosing NFL Draft Over Transfer Option

While the emotional toll on the quarterback was discouraging, it doesn’t come close to the financial blow the quarterback has to endure, as he will miss out on a life-changing opportunity he once had in his first.

According to the experts, his rookie deal will be a massive loss compared to what he could have made if he had entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.

After the last campaign, it was already crystal clear that Ewers would not be back on the 40 Acres. While he played exceptionally during his tenure with the Longhorns, it was time for the next move. He decided to choose between transferring elsewhere or entering the draft.

Ewers was already one of the highest-valued athletes in college sports. According to the experts, he was expected to earn around $6 million. Now, looking at the deal in hand, the quarterback is looking at just over $1 million a year on the rookie contract with the Dolphins. Over the next few years, it will be a massive difference in his incoming profit.

Ewers reportedly turned down a NIL offer worth $8 million earlier this year to stay one more season in college. Safe to say, an early and poorly-planned decision to enter the draft resulted in a massive financial blow for the QB.

At the end of the day, the decision was Ewers, and the quarterback is accountable for how things have turned out for him.

But not everyone believes this. Fox Sports’ RJ Young had a lot to say about Ewers’ seventh-round pick.

“But when you look at the guys drafted ahead of Quinn Ewers, you must ask some real questions. Riley Leaonard drafted before Quinn Ewers, as was Dillion Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders, and Tyler Shough- my goodness. Jackson Dart is one thing, Tyler Shough is another. Jalen Milroe, another. Kyle McCord, another. Will Howard, another. It’s getting really difficult to defend this,” Young said.

He mentioned that Ewers should have followed Beck’s playbook, hit the portal, and taken the easier route.
