After a disastrous 2024 season, the Florida State Seminoles brought in quarterback Thomas Castellanos via the transfer portal. He played for the Boston College Eagles last season. Castellanos made some bold statements this offseason, particularly about Alabama. FSU plays the Crimson Tide in its season opener this year.
“Oh, you play with Bama? Listen, y’all boys gonna see,” Castellanos said.
This led to a big reaction from fans, many of whom do not think it was likely that FSU would beat the Alabama powerhouse. However, at the ACC media days on Wednesday, Castellanos doubled down on his comments.
“We stand on what I said,” Castellanos said. “I said what I said and we stand on that. I don’t mean no disrespect to any of those guys at Alabama or anything like that. It’s just I have confidence in my guys and the work we’ve been putting in and the preparation we’ve been putting together. So, that’s all that was. I just, no disrespect to those guys but we stand on what we said.”
Asked about his comments this summer about Alabama, FSU QB Tommy Castellanos says he meant “no disrespect” to the Tide. But his teammates have his back.

Thomas Castellanos Has Continued To Express Excitement About FSU’s Matchup Against Alabama Throughout the Offseason
Castellanos has been bold in his comments about the Alabama matchup and his confidence in FSU throughout the offseason. However, based on his comments at ACC media days, it does not appear that he has meant them in a mean-spirited way. It appears to come from a place of excitement.
Castellanos has been consistent in his excitement about the Alabama matchup throughout the offseason. In an interview with On3 insider Pete Nakos in June, Castellanos spoke about the upcoming matchup.
“I’m excited, man,” Castellanos said. “People, I don’t know if they know, but you go back and watch every first game that I played in, we always start fast. I dreamed of moments like this. I dreamed of playing against Alabama. They don’t have Nick Saban to save them. I just don’t see them stopping me.”
Both teams are looking to bounce back after disappointing 2024 seasons. Alabama missed the college football playoff in its first season after the retirement of legendary head coach Nick Saban. The Florida State Seminoles are looking to become competitive again in the ACC after a disastrous 2-10 season.
