Projecting the Strongest College Football Players at the 2025 NFL Combine

The bench press is where some of the strongest players at the NFL Combine are revealed; who will be the leaders in that event this year?

For the strongest players at the NFL Combine, the 225-pound bench press is the place to make a statement. Typically, the top performer is a shorter-armed player who has the ability to pop and lock out the bar at a shorter length than longer-armed individuals.

We’ll list some who may fit into that category, as well as others who, pound-for-pound, have shown to be extremely powerful at the college level. Keep in mind that the record for most reps is 51, set by former Eastern Kentucky defensive tackle Justin Ernest in 1999. Can anyone top that performance in 2025?

Predicting the Strongest Players at the 2025 NFL Combine

    DT Mason Graham, Michigan

A potential top-five overall selection, Graham projects as the top interior defensive lineman in the 2025 Draft. The 6’3″, 320-pounder’s power is a large reason for that.

His ability to take on double teams and push interior linemen into the backfield was on full display in 2024 with the Wolverines. He registered 7.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

He should excel on the bench press aspect of the combine, as he explodes his arms into the chests of offensive linemen in a similar motion as the lift.

OL Grey Zabel, North Dakota State

Zabel, after playing five seasons at the FCS level with the Bison, put all questions of the lack of competition he faced in college to bed during his week at the Senior Bowl.

Arguably, his draft stock raised the most of any of the Senior Bowl participants due to his reps in the one-on-one drills. The former Bison spent the majority of his time at tackle but may be a candidate to kick inside due to his sheer power.

His average to below-average arm length should serve him well in the bench press.

    EDGE Shemar Stewart, Texas A&M

The 6’6″, 290-pound edge from Texas A&M is one of the most anticipated combine prospects that we’ve ever seen. His body and measurements project him to be a terrific player at the next level.

However, in three seasons with the Aggies, he posted only 4.5 sacks—a concerning lack of production for a player considered to be a first-round pick. But the physical attributes cannot be overlooked.

Stewart may not be the strongest player at the combine, but pound-for-pound, he may pack the most punch.

    OL Jackson Slater, Sacramento State

The former Hornet also has below-average arm length, which should amplify his bench press numbers. Slater is also known as one of the toughest offensive line prospects in the draft.

With Sacramento State, he showcased consistent grit and power across his four seasons. His competitiveness stands out on film, something that will also serve him well in the bench press, where a player’s mentality is also a huge aspect.

Projected as a guard at the next level, Slater’s strength is expected to be showcased at the combine.

    OL Aireontae Ersery, Minnesota

At 6’6″, 330 pounds, Ersery will be one of the largest players at the combine. He boasts terrific power at the point of attack and possesses a violent punch, projecting well as a power player at tackle.

In high school, Ersery also starred on the track and field team, excelling at shot-put and javelin.

His arm length is typical of NFL offensive tackles, which may not cause his bench press numbers to reflect his true power compared to other players—but Ersery will undoubtedly be one of the strongest prospects in Indianapolis.
