One of the bowl games that people around college football love to have fun with is the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. But after his team won it this season and got a mayo bath, Minnesota Golden Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck did not enjoy getting the stench off.

P.J. Fleck Details the Aftermath of the Duke’s Mayo Bowl Bath
After defeating Virginia Tech by a score of 24-10 to win the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, the Golden Gophers gave their head coach the aforementioned mayo bath.
Unfortunately for Fleck, as he talked about it in a recent Big Ten Network interview, getting the smell off of himself was the problem.

Minnesota currently has the longest-active winning streak in college football when it comes to bowl games, as they have won eight in a row since 2015.
For Fleck, taking on the burden of smelling like mayonnaise for days after the win certainly was worth it as the Gophers ended the season on a high note yet again.
Fleck’s Outlook in Minneapolis
While Fleck hasn’t necessarily had a perfect run while coaching at the University of Minnesota, he has helped turn them into a more formidable team over his eight-year tenure.
Fleck has guided the program to six Bowl wins, four seasons with nine or more wins, and has kept them competitive in a tough Big Ten. His best season with the school came in 2019, when they won 11 games, finished tied for first in the then-Big Ten West, and earned a victory in the Outback Bowl.

Now, it would be best for the former Western Michigan head coach to have as far away from a .500 record as possible, considering he hasn’t had many 10-win seasons. He is also just 34-36 in conference play across his coaching career in the Twin Cities.
When those mediocre records start to build up, athletic directors can sometimes start to get a little impatient with how things are moving. Look for Fleck to have a little bit more urgency in 2025, fresh off of his mayonnaise bath and another fine season for the Golden Gopher program.
