When the Panthers unveiled its upcoming football schedule, they couldn’t resist making a lighthearted reference to the 2013 matchup against Heisman winner Jameis Winston. The Panthers’ official social media accounts posted a graphic illustrating their 2025 schedule with the tagline, “No freshman phenoms allowed this time, FSU.”
This tagline was an obvious reference to Winston’s outstanding freshman campaign, which included a big game against the Panthers.
Winston had an impressive collegiate football debut against Pitt in 2013, guiding the Seminoles to a 41-13 victory. He completed 25 of his 27 throws for 356 yards and four touchdowns, highlighting his abilities and setting the foundation for a Heisman Trophy-winning season.

Despite being conference mates in the ACC, Florida State and Pittsburgh have only met twice since that 2013 matchup. In 2020, the Panthers left Tallahassee with a 41-17 beatdown of the Seminoles.
