Was There a Pick-Six in the NFL Playoffs? Explaining Applebee’s Free Wing Deal and If You’re Eligible for 6 Free Wings

Former Illinois DB Quan Martin secured the fate of millions of Americans who may find themselves wanting wings on Monday, Jan. 20.

The NFL Playoffs are here and we’re on to the conference championships after an exciting two-day, four-game slate in the divisional round. However, many fans are wondering about a very specific result happening from the weekend’s action — you may be one of them — and if a trip to Applebee’s is in the works for Monday, Jan. 20.

At the center of that debate is former Illinois Fighting Illini defensive back Quan Martin, now playing for the Washington Commanders.

Yes, Applebee’s Is Giving 6 Free Wings Today

The national food chain offered up six free wings if there was a pick-six (an interception returned for a touchdown) in either of the four divisional round playoff matchups on Saturday or Sunday. Campbell was featured as the ‘head coach’ during the advert, letting fans know about the deal.

Following Saturday’s Chiefs-Texans game, there were no interceptions returned for touchdowns, but Campbell’s team was in action on late in the day on Saturday. And that’s where the irony came.

While the storylines all read ‘rookie QB Jayden Daniels stuns NFL world,’ the real headline should have been ‘Campbell’s QB gives free wings to everyone in the country,’ after Jared Goff through an interception to Commanders DB Quan Martin midway through a torrid second quarter.

Martin, who played five seasons for Illinois, was a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He made seven interceptions during his college career with the Illini, but his interception of Goff and subsequent return for a touchdown netted the entire country free wings from Applebee’s in the process.

The irony in the fact that Campbell — who stars in the commercial — saw his real-life quarterback give away free wings to the entire nation. So, if you find yourself hungry or fancying some wings on Monday, January 20, you can head to Applebee’s for some wings. And thank Martin along the way.

Now that’s eating good in the neighborhood.
