‘You May Not Have Heard Of Him’ – Paul Finebaum Endorses Ty Simpson as Upgrade with Key Difference Over Jalen Milroe for Alabama’s 2025 Run

Could Ty Simpson radically change Alabama Crimson Tide in 2025? Coach Kalen DeBoer has faced some criticisms over the performances of Alabama during his first year in charge at Tuscaloosa.

While some could argue that 9-4 is not a bad overall record for the first season after the end of the Nick Saban era, not having double-digit wins and losing a bowl game is not enough to cut it at Alabama.

However, there seems to be considerably more optimism about the program’s potential performance in 2025. One of the arguments for possible improvement is the fact that Simpson is a quarterback who’s expected to fit better in DeBoer’s offensive scheme.

One of those who thinks that this season will be an improvement for Alabama is SEC insider Paul Finebaum:

“I am going with more, and I know exactly what happened last year in Kalen DeBoer’s first season, but this team is better,” Finebaum said on Get Up. “He has a better quarterback, Ty Simpson, you may not have heard of him. Jalen Milroe was great and he was also ice cold at times. Simpson, I think is serviceable. He will lead this offense. The defense is the best Alabama has had since about seven or eight years ago. And I think Alabama has a legitimate shot at winning the SEC and the national championship.”

There’s also the fact that Kalen DeBoer will be able to count on long-time partner Ryan Grubb. Grubb worked alongside DeBoer at Sioux Falls, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, and Washington, and was slated to join Alabama in 2024. But, he turned down the opportunity to become the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator for that year.

Ty Simpson on how he and Ryan Grubb can improve Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama

Another person who believes that 2025 will be a transformational year for the Crimson Tide is expected starter Ty Simpson. Speaking over the weekend at the Manning Passing Academy, the Alabama signal-caller expressed optimism at Ryan Grubb’s arrival and also compared himself to Jalen Milroe.

“Coach Grubb coming in, he’s going to put his stuff in from being from the NFL,” Simpson said at the Manning Passing Academy in Thibodaux, La. “But I also think that me and Jalen have different playing abilities, I guess. Jalen, his legs were very unique. Everybody else saw that. That guy is [as] freakish [an] athlete I’ve ever seen. I feel like I’m a good athlete, as well, but Jalen does things better than I did. But I also do things, some, better than Jalen. It just depends on what the game is that week and what they do.”

“We’re going to be true to our identity and get our playmakers the ball, but also understand that we’ve got a good offensive line up front. I’m very, very excited about what’s to hold in the future.”

Over three seasons, the redshirt junior has played in 16 games and recorded 381 passing yards, with no touchdown passes or interceptions. He also ran for 130 yards and recorded three touchdown passes in 22 carries.
