“His Family Loved It”: Paul Finebaum Claims One Condition Under Which Nick Saban Can Take Up LSU Job After Brian Kelly’s Firing

The college football world is full of head coaching opportunities, as multiple programs have decided to let go of their coaches.

One of the latest firings was when the LSU Tigers decided to part ways with Brian Kelly after a disappointing loss (49-25) against the Texas A&M Aggies last Saturday.

Now that the LSU head coaching position is vacant, many names have been doing the rounds as Kelly’s potential replacement, including James Franklin, Lane Kiffin, and Nick Saban.

Talking about the possibility of Saban coming out of retirement and taking the head coaching job at LSU, analyst Paul Finebaum said on the “Rich Eisen Show” (7:27):

“Nick Saban was the coach at LSU. He won the national championship there in 2003 and Saban left in ’05 to go to the Dolphins. While Alabama was where he made his mark, it was only six national championships. There was this gravitational pull about Baton Rouge.”

“His family loved it, and it probably is the only place that could get a conversation with Nick Saban. So, let’s go ahead and finish this. What would it take to get Nick Saban to leave the game day set sitting next to McAfee every Saturday and to go to LSU? It would take more than he made at Alabama, which was about 10 or 11 million. But if they came up with a package, Rich, I think you could literally fill in the number. Would I do I think Saban would think about it for a minute. Yes, I do. There’s a lot of risk involved,” Finebaum added.

Paul Finebaum Makes His Pick Between LSU and Florida for Lane Kiffin

As two programs eye Lane Kiffin to be their next head coach, Paul Finebaum talked about which place would be a better fit for the Ole Miss head coach if he were deciding between Florida and LSU.

During his appearance on the show called “Get Up,” Finebaum said that while it’s a close call, in his mind, LSU takes the crown due to its infrastructure. He added that he believes Kiffin fits the culture in Louisiana pretty well and that he is familiar with it.

However, if it’s about choosing between the two, LSU is the clear winner as it’s going to be the job everyone wants.
