In a return of sizable proportions, West Virginia Mountaineers legend Pat White is coming back to Morgantown to help coach the offense as part of head coach Rich Rodriguez’s new staff.

Pat White’s Magical Run in Morgantown
White is one of the legends of an older era of college football.
Back when the Mountaineers were part of the Big East Conference, White was as dominant a player as you will find. He was a two-time Big East Player of the Year and a three-time all-conference selection (all first-team selections).

The Alabama native showed off his ridiculous skillset for all four years that he was the starter from 2005 to 2008. He rushed for over 1,200 yards twice while eclipsing at least 900 yards on the ground in all four years. In those two seasons where he rushed for over 1,200 yards, he also recorded at least 14 rushing touchdowns.
Of course, he was also a pretty good passer too. He completed over 65% of his passes in his final three seasons in Morgantown while also pouring in 48 touchdowns through the air in each of those seasons.
Again, in a different era of college football, Pat White was one of the game’s most electric players with the ball in his hands.
White’s New Coaching Role
In West Virginia’s recent social media post announcing the addition of White to the coaching staff, it states that he will be the assistant quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach.
As somebody who understands how to play the position at a high level, putting White in the room with the quarterbacks makes a ton of sense. Naming him as an assistant head coach makes sense, too, considering he played for Rodriguez back in the day and understands how important the program is to the state of West Virginia.

This team is looking to start fresh after a forgetful stint with former head coach Neil Brown. The Mountaineers were only able to win more than six games in a season just once under Brown.
With the additions of Rodriguez and White, look for the culture to possibly change in a big way this season in Morgantown.
