“When Is ESPN Going To Take This Clown Off”, “Legend”: Fans Divided as Pat McAfee Strips On Live Television For College Gameday Stunt

Pat McAfee once again stole the spotlight on ESPN’s College GameDay. Broadcasting live from the University of Miami, McAfee pulled off a stunt that divided fans online. He stripped out of his suit, revealing swim briefs, and climbed onto a high dive platform.

Moments later, he launched into the pool in front of a roaring crowd. The act drew immediate attention across social media. While some viewers enjoyed the entertainment factor, others felt he crossed the line for a national broadcast.

The criticism was quick, with many questioning ESPN’s decision to keep giving McAfee space for such stunts. Fans on the internet asked ESPN to fire McAfee for the same, but it was far from unanimous.

“When is espn going to take this clown off of Gameday?” a fan wrote.

    “He’s insufferable,” a fan wrote.

“Dumb as hell…,” a fan wrote.

While the fans who didn’t like McAfee’s theatrics were loud in the comments, there were plenty who wholeheartedly supported it.

“Legend, a true man of the people,” one fan complimented McAfee.

“I wish I had his energy,” another fan wrote.

“Give Pat McAfee a 10 for the high dive,” a fan wrote.

“Bro is carrying Gameday but him with Kirk and Saban is a perfect trio,” a fan wrote.

Fans who have grown tired of his presence pointed to the dive as another example of over-the-top showmanship. They argued it distracts from the actual football coverage and damages the credibility of the broadcast.

Others defended him, saying Pat McAfee’s unpredictability is what makes him stand out in a crowded media landscape.

This is not the first time McAfee has used such behavior to command attention. His larger-than-life personality has been part of the show since he joined the GameDay crew. He has performed bold stunts earlier as well, but this one was among the most extreme to date.

Pat McAfee Believes Devon Dampier is the ‘Real Deal’

For Saturday’s Big 12 matchup, No. 17 Texas Tech will travel to face No. 16 Utah in a key conference showdown. McAfee singled out Utah’s quarterback, Devon Dampier, as a standout talent.

He described Dampier as a ‘real deal’ player, highlighting his skill, poise, and ability to lead the Utes against one of the league’s toughest teams. The game will test both teams, but Dampier’s performance is expected to be a central factor in Utah’s chances.

The Big 12’s College Football Playoff chances are uncertain. Every win in the league matters. Texas Tech invested heavily in its roster this offseason. Utah added a new quarterback, offensive coordinator, and wide receiver.
