Shedeur Sanders has been having some troubles during the Cleveland Browns’ preseason training camp. According to reports, the former Colorado signal-caller has barely seen any time with the team’s first team offense, and he’s currently considered QB4 by the coaching staff.
Shedeur is currently in the most crowded quarterback room in the league, with Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and fellow 2025 draftee Dillon Gabriel also being on the roster. While DeShaun Watson remains on the team’s payroll, he has been placed on the PUP list and isn’t expected to play a role this season. Adding insult to injury, some reports also speculate that the Browns might be interested in recruiting a quarterback in 2026 if they get a high draft pick once more. Allegedly, they could be interested in Texas’s Arch Manning.
But according to ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum, it’s too early to write Shedeur Sanders. According to him, someone went through a very similar problem early in his career and ended up being quite a successful quarterback: Tom Brady.
“Let Shedeur Sanders go out there and compete, those statistics, I know it’s July, but you know Tom Brady is his mentor. You can see all over social media how Tom Brady got through the day when he was the eighth strand Michigan, if I got two reps, they were the best two reps, you stack one good day on top of the next.” said the former NFL executive on “get up”
Shedeur Sanders dropped all the way to the fifth round of the NFL Draft after having been touted as a potential first overall pick. While there wasn’t this kind of buzz around Brady when he was drafted, the Michigan quarterback ended up being drafted in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. His chance to become a starter only came due to a season-ending injury to Drew Bledsoe in his second season in the NFL.

Deion Sanders on why he decided against visiting Shedeur Sanders during the Cleveland Browns’ training camp
Speaking soon after the reveal of his cancer recovery, Deion Sanders explained why he hasn’t visited Shedeur Sanders at the Cleveland Browns’ preseason training camp. After he visited Shilo Sanders in Tampa, fans expected him to go north to visit Shedeur in Cleveland. He didn’t.
However, it wasn’t his choice, rather Shedeur’s, and the Buffs coach explained his son’s reasoning:
“He was like, ‘Dad, I may only get three-four reps at practice. I don’t want you seeing that.’ Like, come on. ‘No, I’m not where I need to be yet. Let me get where I need to be.’ And it’s so funny — this is his first time, man. But he’s dealing with it like a pro. He ain’t mad. He’s not sulking…” (21:06)
“… And I’m like, ‘I already know what you’re going to do. I’m not worried about that.’
But still — he didn’t want me to come”
Sanders said so during an episode of Michael Irving’s podcast, in which he also spoke of his cancer diagnosis and the recovery process.
