Former Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Garrett Wilson pinned the blame for the College Football Playoff quarterfinal loss against Miami on kicker Jayden Fielding, who made a miscue in the second quarter.
Fielding missed a 49-yard field goal attempt late in the second quarter in the Cotton Bowl, just before halftime. That miss was notable because instead of entering halftime down only 7-3, Ohio State trailed 14-0, a deficit they couldn’t overcome. Miami went on to win the game 24-14.
After the game, Wilson let out his frustration on the kicker on social media.
“I just woke up , it is 2026. We gotta have the best kicker onna continent in Columbus from here on out…” he wrote on X.

An interesting statline about Jayden Fielding’s struggles has also been doing the rounds on the internet. It stated that in three Cotton Bowl Games, the kicker has missed 67% of his field goals. Moreover, in 5 games played in Domes, the kicker has made only 57% of his field goals.

Recently, in the Big Ten championship game, Jayden Fielding missed a 27-yard field goal attempt late in the fourth quarter. This kick was even more clutch because a successful attempt could have tied the game instead of the Buckeyes’ 13-10 loss.

Ohio State Kicker Receiving Damning Messages After His Miscue In CFP QF
Jayden Fielding had made 16 of 19 field goal attempts entering the Cotton Bowl game against Miami. However, a bad miss in the biggest moment invited criticism from all corners.
In the media appearance following the Cotton Bowl loss, Jayden Fielding revealed that someone leaked his phone number and home address, and as a result, he has been receiving threatening messages.
“I’d say it was probably worse this year than last year,” Fielding told Eleven Warriors. “I was constantly in contact with the OSU Police Department for my safety because they were worried about me and my mom was worried about me. They were always in constant contact with me, making sure I was all right.”
With the loss, Ohio State won’t win the national championship back-to-back and will enter an uncertain period with the transfer portal around the corner.
