Oregon WR Tez Johnson Reveals the 3 NFL WRs Who Inspired His Game

Oregon WR Tez Johnson shares the three NFL wide receivers who shaped his play style and inspired his journey to stardom.

Oregon Ducks wide receiver Tez Johnson, despite being considered smaller than most NFL pass catchers, has made a strong impression at the 2025 Reese’s Senior Bowl. Standing at 5-foot-9 and weighing only 156 pounds, Johnson’s physical profile has raised some concerns about his performance on the ground.

Tez Johnson The Standout In The 2025 Senior Bowl

Johnson, who declared for the 2025 NFL Draft earlier this month, has continued to turn heads as he prepares for the next phase of his career. When asked about what separates him from other wide receivers, Johnson immediately highlighted his speed and quickness.

He said, “Obviously, my quickness and speed. Knowing what to do and what to do beforehand. Knowing how to attack them.”

Johnson also noted that he models his game after three standout NFL receivers: Tank Dell, Cooper Kupp, and Tyler Lockett. Johnson stated, “Tyler Lockett gets to the ground. Cooper Kupp, really good route-runner, decision-making. And Tank Dell, he’s got really great separation.”

These influences have shaped his style of play, particularly his ability to create separation, make smart route-running decisions, and find ways to gain leverage on defenders.

Johnson’s performance at the Senior Bowl has provided a glimpse of his potential at the professional level. On what he learned from the Senior Bowl experience, Johnson explained, “You’ve got to be able to separate yourself from the guys already out here. It’s the best of the best. How you can separate yourself when you’re out here, your routine matters.”

Before entering the Senior Bowl, Johnson completed a strong season at Oregon, marking himself as one of the team’s top receivers. He finished the 2023 season with 898 receiving yards, 83 receptions, and 10 touchdowns. His consistency on the field was noteworthy, particularly since he missed almost three full games due to injury.

Johnson Looking Toward the 2025 NFL Draft

Despite those setbacks, Johnson came within just three receptions of breaking his single-season reception record, which was set at 86 in 2023. This performance solidified his status as one of the top wide receivers in the Pac-12 and made him a key prospect heading into the 2025 NFL Draft.

Beyond his on-field performance, Johnson has shown appreciation for the support system around him. He expressed gratitude to his family, teammates, coaches, and fans. On social media, he thanked his “Hotboyz” group, his family, and his coach, whom he now refers to as a father figure.

Johnson’s skill set, particularly his quickness, speed, and route-running precision, has garnered significant attention from scouts and analysts alike.

Johnson’s performances at both the Senior Bowl and during his time at Oregon show that his talents are more than enough to make him a promising NFL prospect.
