Why Tosh Lupoi Deserves the Credit for Oregon’s Troy Bowens Flip

The Oregon Ducks have been successful in recruiting top college football talent for years. Nonetheless, the team’s latest big get is Troy Bowens, a four-star edge rusher looking for a college that is now under scrutiny across the nation.

Credit for this successful recruitment goes largely to Tosh Lupoi, Oregon’s defensive coordinator, who uses his influence and style to capture the world’s attention. Bowens is a major target for the Ducks in next year’s recruiting class and Lupoi’s efforts are becoming central to Oregon’s recruiting success.

Tosh Lupoi’s Recruiting Power and Oregon’s Allure Seal the Deal for Troy Bowens

At 6 feet 4 inches, Bowens from Sutter High School in California is now considered a top defensive recruit in the country. Recently, Bowens toured Oregon and noticed the cutting-edge equipment, lively student life, and particularly appreciated how much the staff involved him in practice.

“Coach Tosh was at spring ball for me, too, and I really like him,” Bowens told 247Sports. “Coach Lanning is one of my favorite coaches in college football. I got a chance to meet him in his office and he really knows a lot about football and I gained a lot of knowledge. It was crazy up at Oregon…they have so much advanced stuff they do for their players and they’re building another facility. I know if you go to Oregon, you’re set”.

There is a lot of praise for Tosh Lupoi in the world of football for his talents as a recruitment specialist and a defensive coach. Since coming to Oregon, he has made the Ducks’ defense one of the toughest units in college football.

Lupoi has a way of engaging with players equally when they are training and outside of work. It is common for recruits to talk about his genuine concern for their development and his readiness to maintain strong mutual relationships. For Bowens, meeting Lupoi at spring practice and receiving his personal attention made a big difference.

The way Lupoi hunts for players and focuses on defense has given Oregon a big advantage on the recruiting trail. The success he’s had with NFL-worthy players and his nonstop work in coaching have made him respected by those in the industry.

Part of the Ducks’ success in landing Bowens is a testament to the leadership of Dan Lanning and Tosh Lupoi. As the team continues to lead the recruiting race, it will find it simpler to recruit top players.
