‘You Recognize It When It Shows Up’ — Oregon HC Dan Lanning Sees Something Different in 5-Star WR Dakorien Moore

While the NFL and college football world are busy focusing on recruiting talent through the NFL Draft, Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning is praising five-star wide receiver recruit Dakorien Moore, who has just begun his college football journey.

It may sound a bit over-the-top that a kid who just got his school ID is already getting so much attention. But the truth is, this elite recruit has started to show his potential as a future WR1 by impressing Lanning early on.

Oregon HC Dan Lanning Believes Dakorien Moore Has The ‘It’ Factor

Dakorien Moore is already turning heads as one of the top young stars in college football. Ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class by ESPN and other sources, he also holds the No. 3 spot overall, which is just behind quarterbacks Bryce Underwood and Julian Lewis.

The Oregon Ducks saw his potential early and made sure to land him. Meanwhile, the rest of the football world began to notice his talent in January 2025 when a clip of him training went viral. In the video, the five-star receiver from Texas made an impressive leap to catch a pass from a five-star quarterback from Michigan.

That moment lit up social media and gave everyone a clear look at how exciting Moore really is. Since then, he’s been turning heads at Oregon’s spring practice.

And it’s no surprise that head coach Dan Lanning is already impressed. While talking to J.D. PicKell on The Hard Count, Lanning said, “You just see the ability. When you’re around special players, you recognize it when it shows up.”

It’s clear that Dakorien Moore is different. And with the NFL Draft around the corner, putting a spotlight on young talent like him is really important, and Lanning knows this. This is how stars build their future: by showing up and standing out.

However, the 18-year-old’s journey to Oregon wasn’t simple. He was originally committed to LSU but flipped to Oregon in July 2024. Later that year, he shut down his recruitment for good. In December, he made it official by signing with the Ducks during the early signing period.

As the Ducks prepare for the new season, everyone will be watching Moore to see how he performs. If his past success is any indication, he is poised to make a significant impact on the field. And with a coach like Lanning who believes in his abilities, Moore’s future at Oregon looks incredibly promising.
