The Egg Bowl matchup between Mississippi State and Ole Miss could have been when Lane Kiffin would have announced his decision on which school he would work for next. However, this possible announcement has now been overshadowed by a bench-clearing brawl between the two teams.

Players from both squads left their respective benches and threw hands against one another, prompting officials to be separated. Ole Miss TE Daequan Wright reportedly started the fight as he was the one who started pushing and shoving, according to ABC, and this had fans talking:
“Kiffin needs to get his boys under control,” one fan said.
“This got closer to a free for all than anything I’ve seen in a while .. it was clearly an incomplete pass, but the emotions are at 12 on a 10 scale .. decent game,” another fan noted.
“Gotta love rivalry weekend,” another person pointed out.
“That sounds wild, I hope no one was seriously hurt, but imagine the drama in the stands with fans probably going crazy too.” another commenter added.
“In America this is what we call a heated rivalry. This is very common in college football. They got pads and helmets on they probably are not feeling any of those punches,” one person noted.
“Rivalry week off to a great start!” commented one viewer.
The brawl happened late in the second quarter, with Ole Miss leading Mississippi State, and tempers were running high.

What Really Happened During That Ole Miss vs. Mississippi State Brawl?
During the game, Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss had a would-be fumble called on the field, and this led to several players pushing and shoving players from the other team, with the Rebels’ Daequan Wright being accused of initiating it. Soon enough, some punches were thrown, and this led to both benches being cleared to join the scrum.

The play that caused the brawl, the Chambliss fumble, was reviewed and ruled to be an incomplete pass. The officials also gave personal fouls to Ole Miss’ Deuce Alexander and Delano Townsend and Mississippi State’s Malick Sylla. The officials did not reject anybody, even though cameras have shown players from both sides throwing punches.
